Guess where the inspiration for this strip came from...Oh, and i appear to have reneged on my promise from episode 4 about changing the speech bubble font. Whaddya reckon?
Some people have been asking if CFC's is meant to be a rip-off of KFC. It's not. The "CFC's" shown in the strip is meant to be a representation of Willowbank Dairy ("The Student Dairy for Chicken & Chips"), an establishment just around the corner from my current lodgings lovingly referred to by the local student body as CFC's (referring the their Country Fried Chicken franchise). They're open 24 hours from Thursday to Sunday, making them a haven for nocturnal students craving hot food in the wee small hours. I was actually on a mission for some hot chips and an energy drink when the idea for this strip first began to form in my mind (see 3rd frame). Although, upon a recent visit, I realised that my drawing of the building looks entirely differnt to its real-life counterpart (although adding the large neon "CFC's" sign to the facade was intentional)
this strip was actually based on a true story, I had done an all-nighter a day or two previous to writing the strip, culminating in me writing a 135-word report (it was meant to be 2 whole pages. Even with double spacing, this one would have been lucky to a one quarter-page) to summarise my efforts during a particular assignment. Alessa's little speech about Linc's essay was actually the voice of my own disgust at handing such an obviously inadequate piece of work (and such a muddled and poorly drawn comic - notice I didn't have time to colour it). Anyway, yesterday I got the marks back for said report. I got an A+. There was a comment too, "report could use some improvement. A+" The mark for the report itself was even better than that of the 3D model and poster I had spent the night putting together (A-). Stll, not that I'm complaining or anything... |
